(B5) Engaging and Treating Youth involved in hate communities
Description
Transitional Aged Youth are becoming more involved in hate or extremist ideologies that are rooted in misogyny, xenophobia, and violence. Participants in this seminar will learn how to understand youth adherence to some of the most salient groups/ideologies (i.e. Incel, Ethno-Nationalism), how to build rapport with young people in this context without endorsing their views, and treatment strategies that have worked to foster stronger ties to pro-social communities amongst youth. Warning, this session will discuss hate content that youth are engaging with and participants are advised to engage in self-care practices.
