At Haldimand-Norfolk REACH, our Therapy & Groups Unit is embracing land-based therapeutic approaches as a core part of supporting children, youth, and families. Our team of diverse therapists integrates these practices into both ongoing services and brief single-session therapy, drawing on Indigenous thought traditions that honour the land as a source of healing, grounding, and cultural connection.
By bringing sessions outdoors and using nature-based mindfulness, we see youth experience improved self-regulation, reduced stress, and stronger family communication. These approaches invite us to move beyond conventional clinical spaces and toward more holistic, inclusive, and culturally responsive care.
As we look to the future of child and youth mental health, expanding land-based therapy within our organization—and across our sector—offers a meaningful path forward. It strengthens relationships between people, culture, and place, and helps create sustainable, community-rooted pathways for healing that reflect the values of the families we serve.
