(C5-2) Lightning Talk | Beyond Access: Supporting Culturally Responsive Innovation Initiatives in the Child & Youth Mental Health, Substance Use Health and Addictions Sector
Description

The Innovation Initiatives grant program at the Knowledge Institute on Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions is currently prioritising the implementation and evaluation of culturally-responsive innovations to transform how mental health, substance use health and addictions services engage children, young people and families impacted by racism, exclusion, stigma, and other structural barriers. We champion agencies as they implement new evidence-based or promising practices with the potential to create a broader, more sustainable impact for equity deserving groups across the sector and address barriers and systemic inequities. To date, ten projects have been selected that centre community-identified priorities, integrate lived expertise, and embed cultural values and practices. This talk will highlight key learnings from the program and invite participants to consider what it takes to co-create innovations that are accessible, equitable, and culturally responsive.
