Melissa is the proud mother of a beautifully blended family, with three biological children and 6 adopted through public adoption. She has also been providing foster care for over 16 years, and her life’s work has centered around creating safe, supportive, and empowering environments for children and families. She’s a powerful advocate and a steady support for many permanency caregivers through 1:1 support, training, social events, support groups, and advocacy efforts.
With a BA in Social Development Studies, Melissa’s knowledge is both academic and lived. Her experience spans a wide range of areas including FASD, ADHD, PTSD, AFCCA, anxiety, depression, developmental trauma, and developmental delays, as well as sibling adoption and openness. She believes deeply in empowering caregivers through education and connection and is passionate about helping families find hope and support.
