Speaker Bio
Vijay Thanigasalam was appointed Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions on March 19, 2025. In this role, he is dedicated to advancing mental health initiatives and strengthening addiction support systems across Ontario.
First elected to the Ontario Legislature in 2018, Minister Thanigasalam represents the riding of Scarborough–Rouge Park and has been re-elected in both 2022 and 2025. He was first appointed to Premier Doug Ford’s cabinet on September 22, 2023, as Associate Minister of Transportation, where he successfully launched Ontario’s One Fare Program. Subsequently, on June 6, 2024, he was appointed Associate Minister of Housing and played a key role in expanding the province’s modular housing sector.
Before entering politics, Minister Thanigasalam built a career in the financial sector, gaining valuable experience at two of Toronto’s leading financial institutions. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University.
