In the first half of this workshop, we will share our experience using multiple arts-based methods to engage Peel Region’s South Asian and Black/African/Caribbean youth and caregivers in mental health and addiction service co-design. Methods to be presented include visual and dramatic arts approaches such as vision boards, short videos, and cartoons, plus strategies for extracting themes for decisionmaker audiences. In the second half, attendees will engage in experiential learning by using (an abbreviated) version of one of three arts-based methods to communicate an idea for improving youth mental health services.
Learning Objectives
1. Describe a range of arts-based methods for engaging diverse groups of youth and caregivers in mental health and addiction service co-design.
2. Understand how to use arts-based activities with caregivers and youth to solicit ideas for mental health and addictions system co-design.
